historic stables at Balmoral Station
There are two historic buildings on Balmoral Station - the stables shown here and the woolshed.
The stables were built in 1865 are category II with The New Zealand Historic Places Trust [the country's leading heritage agency whose mission is to keep New Zealand's heritage places alive and useful].
They're comprised of stables, hay and chaff loft, and a workshop.
In one of the lower photos you can see the chute down which chaff would be fed to the horses, and in charcoal on the brick work the horse's name. There was a Billy, Jock, Solly, Punch and Prime. The floor of the stables [photo far left] is cobbled river stones.
The other historic building not shown here yet, is the nearby woolshed, built in 1860 from a kitset manufactured in Australia.
